If you’re a fleet owner or manager, the choice of charging equipment for your electric vehicles (EVs) is not straightforward. There are many options, and each option has its own strengths and weaknesses.
The most obvious choices are between on-board charging systems and external charging stations. But there are other factors to consider as well. For example, if you have multiple locations and need to supply electricity on-site, can you install your own generator? Or will it be more cost-effective to buy excess power from your utility company?
The chargers must be installed correctly and according to the national guidelines, because they are safety-critical equipment. If a charger is not installed correctly and fails, it could cause serious injury or death.
Here are some points to consider when choosing an EV fleet charging installer:
Location
Where will your fleet be parked? Will it be located outdoors or indoors? If outdoors, what kind of weather will affect your charging station?
Employee needs
Do you have enough employees who would need to charge their vehicles at a given time? How long do they want to charge? Do they want access to power during off hours or only during work hours?
Safety:
The most important thing is to ensure that all installations meet the requirements of BS 7671:2008 – Electrical Installations (17th Edition), which specifies standards for electrical installations in the UK. All our installers are fully qualified to install EV charging points according to this standard and our own internal safety procedures.
Experience
We’ve been installing electric vehicle chargers since 2010 and we’re experts in this field. We know what works well and what doesn’t work so well, so we can help you choose the right kind of charger for your needs. We also have experience installing other types of vehicle power supply equipment such as natural gas, hydrogen and LPG refueling stations.
Installation costs
The cost of installation varies based on several factors, including the size of your fleet, the layout of your facilities and whether or not you need electrical upgrades or additional wiring to accommodate the new equipment.
Installation times
Depending on where you’re installing the EV chargers, installing them may take anywhere from one day to two weeks or more. If you need an immediate installation, that may affect how much time it takes for your installers to get everything done — and how much it costs as well.
Maintenance costs and requirements
One important thing to keep in mind when choosing installers is how much maintenance will be required for the equipment over time and how much that will cost you as well as what kind of training will be needed for your staff members who will be maintaining these systems in the future.
